DILI, TIMOR LESTE, Thursday, 21 August 2025 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, led a delegation from the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam to attend the Solemn Ceremony of the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) in Dili, The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste from 19 until 21 August 2025.
The delegation from the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam comprised Yang Mulia Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF); Yang Mulia Mohammad Dino bin Haji Ayup, Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and senior officers from the Ministry of Defence.
The event held on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, commenced with an International Conference at the Main Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), officially opened by His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, followed by a Remembrance Ceremony for the unknown soldier. The main event took place after a lunch reception at Largo de Tasi Tolu, featuring a Military Parade and an address by the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency José Ramos-Horta. The ceremony was attended by senior defence and military representatives, veterans, military personnel, and diplomats from around the world, as well as members of the public.
The 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL), under the theme “Extending Peace to the World”, is a significant milestone in the nation’s history, commemorating five decades since the establishment of its armed independence movement. The event pays tribute to veterans and fallen combatants who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom, strengthens the historical legacy and patriotic spirit across generations, and reflects Timor-Leste’s journey from conflict towards peace and nation-building.
Yang Berhormat Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II also had the opportunity to call on His Excellency Rear Admiral Donaciano Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik”, Ph.D., Minister of Defence of Timor-Leste at the Ministry of Defence building this morning, where both sides discussed defence matters and regional security issues of mutual concern.
The visit reflected Brunei Darussalam’s strong bilateral relations and further strengthened them for regional peace and stability.

KEMENTERIAN PERTAHANAN HADIRI UPACARA SAMBUTAN ULANG TAHUN KE-50 ANGKATAN TENTERA PEMBEBASAN NASIONAL TIMOR-LESTE (FALINTIL)
DILI, TIMOR LESTE, Khamis, 21 Ogos 2025 – Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral (Bersara) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II, telah mengetuai delegasi dari Kementerian Pertahanan Brunei Darussalam bagi menghadiri The 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) yang berlangsung di Dili, Republik Demokratik Timor-Leste dari 19 hingga 21 Ogos 2025.
Rombongan Kementerian Pertahanan ke upacara tersebut disertai oleh Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Pemerintah Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB), Yang Mulia Mohammad Dino bin Haji Ayup, Kuasausaha Sementara, Kedutaan Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Republik Demokratik Timor-Leste dan pegawai-pegawai kanan Kementerian Pertahanan.
Upacara pada Hari Rabu, 20 Ogos 2025 dimulakan dengan Persidangan Antarabangsa diadakan di Dewan Utama, Kementerian Luar Negeri dan Kerjasama (MNEC) yang dirasmikan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão Perdana Menteri Republik Demokratik Timor-Leste, diikuti dengan Remembrance Ceremony for the unknown soldier. Sambutan utama berlangsung selepas jamuan tengah hari di Largo de Tasi Tolu, dengan menampilkan Perbarisan Ketenteraan dan ucapan oleh Presiden Republik Demokratik Timor-Leste, Tuan Yang Terutama José Ramos-Horta. Upacara bersejarah ini turut dihadiri oleh wakil tertinggi pertahanan dan ketenteraan, para veteran, anggota tentera dan diplomat dari seluruh dunia serta penduduk dan orang ramai.
The 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) dengan tema “Extending Peace to the World”, adalah merupakan satu peristiwa penting dalam sejarah Timor-Leste, memperingati lima dekad sejak penubuhan gerakan bersenjata penentangan kemerdekaannya. Acara ini memberikan penghormatan kepada para veteran dan pejuang yang gugur mengorbankan nyawa demi kebebasan negara, memperkukuhkan legasi sejarah serta semangat patriotik merentas generasi, dan mencerminkan perjalanan Timor-Leste daripada konflik menuju keamanan dan pembinaan negara.
Yang Berhormat Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pertahanan II juga berkesempatan mengadakan pertemuan dengan Yang Berhormat Laksamana Muda Donaciano Costa Gomes “Pedro Klamar Fuik”, Ph.D., Menteri Pertahanan Timor-Leste di bangunan Kementerian Pertahanan pada pagi ini, di mana kedua-dua pihak membincangkan hal ehwal pertahanan serta isu-isu keselamatan serantau yang menjadi kepentingan bersama.
Lawatan ini mencerminkan sokongan berterusan Negara Brunei Darussalam terhadap Timor-Leste dan mengukuhkan hubungan pertahanan dua hala ke arah keamanan dan kestabilan serantau.
